Clark Gable is a Texas cattle baron who locks horns with politician Broderick Crawford. Their feud reaches a fever pitch when Gable falls in love with Crawford's fiancee.

Plot Synopsis:

A Western that uses the story of how Texas achieved statehood as its historical backdrop. Tough cattle rancher Devereaux Burke gets behind Sam Houston in the struggle for annexation. Key opponent Broderick Crawford is equally determined that Texas remain a republic -- with him as its president. Among those Burke must win to his side is an alluring female newspaper publisher whose sympathies lie with Crawford.
