Rating: 4/5 -- Basically, it's trashy stuff -- but it's choice trashy stuff. Plus, it's all the more alluring because it came from MGM -- the bastion of middle class morality. Full Review

Rating: 3/4 -- Leeches, slime, 'filthy natives,' human sacrifice, Virginia Bruce's briefly exposed right breast -- 'Kongo' lacks the artistry and novelty of 'Freaks,' MGM's other 1932 pre-code shocker, but it makes up for it in sheer sleazy chutzpah. Full Review

Description by OLDIES.com:

Some eight months after the release of Freaks, another bizarre and unforgettable movie stunned screen audiences -- the feverish tale of black magic and sadism called Kongo. Reprising his stage role, dynamic Walter Huston stars as wheelchair-bound Flint, a ruthless, would-be jungle chieftain who uses the bullets of "boom sticks" and the deception of parlor magic he calls juju to keep African locals in his thrall while carrying out a long-festering plan of revenge against the man who beat and crippled him.

Brutality, sexuality, depravity -- all are at the forefront of this disturbing yet transfixing pre-Code shocker previously filmed as the Lon Chaney-Lionel Barrymore silent West of Zanzibar.

Kongo- Wow! Movie Lover: from BRONX, NY US -- November, 15, 2015

I must admit that I had never seen or heard of this film. A friend of mine recommended that I watch "Kongo" because of the fact that for many years, this film appeared to be lost. To my amazement, "Kongo" is a brilliant film that I would never forget. Although, you need a strong stomach to watch "Kongo" the whole production starting with the directing and ending with the acting is outstanding! Enough talk, get this film and I guarantee you that no other film can compare with it. No wonder why after 82 years, "Kongo" stands the test of time.
