Description by OLDIES.com:
Mister Lobo celebrates 20 years of hosting his show
Cinema Insomnia. In the tradition of those classic horror shows like
Chiller Theatre and
Creature Features, host Lobo appears in brief vignettes between segments of the "late late night movie." He has often described himself by saying, "Imagine if you gave Rod Serling's job to someone who is totally incompetent." Each episode begins with Mr. Lobo promising to screen a bonafide horror classic, only to have the rug pulled out from under him when he is told that a cheap public domain movie has to be shown instead. Various and sundry wacky characters have appeared over the show's two-decade run – including Lobo's houseplant sidekick, Miss Mittens. Cinema Insomnia has been seen on local and cable TV, and Lobo continues to be a regular guest at conventions like Monster Bash and Retro Con. Beloved as an authority on "Bad Movies", Mr. Lobo lives by the motto, "They're not bad movies...just...
misunderstood."
Joy to the world, Mr. Lobo has come…your favorite horror host and Miss Mittens present The Little Shop of Horrors in yuletide green PLANT-O-VISION in an x-tra special Xmas special! What does the 1960 Roger Corman "classic" have to do with Christmas, you may ask? Nothing, but that doesn't stop Mister Lobo from getting holly and jolly as he prepares for Miss Mittens to give birth! Sure, she doesn't have health insurance, but Lobo wrote to Santa Claus asking for some, so everything should work out! (Who wouldn't provide an innocent houseplant with health insurance?!?) As Lobo waits for a Christmas miracle, try to enjoy Little Shop of Horrors, which unlike the later hit Broadway musical and big-budget remake directed by the great Frank Oz, is a fairly grim tale filled with unpleasant ethnic stereotypes (it's best known for a "blink and you'll miss him" cameo from a young Jack Nicholson.) But don't worry, Old Saint Mister Lobo keeps things light with classic Christmas commercials, seasonal drive-in snackbar ads, and actress-comedienne Summer Hairabedian as a particularly risqué Reel 7 Girl! He even teaches the kids at home how to make a hot holiday stocking stuffer for Mom! "Merry Christmas, Mister Lobo!!"
