Product Description:
It was only a matter of time before Robert Rimmer's best-selling book from the 1960s would make its notorious big screen appearance, which it finally did in 1973. Directed by Ted Post, the film version condenses Rimmer's book into a more manageable plot line, but the basic premise remains intact. Set on the campus of the fictional Harrad College, where controversial coed living situations are established, the students are forced to confront their sexuality in ways that society previously shunned. Part of the experiment is to pair incompatible members of the opposite sex as roommates in order to make them shun the traditional concept of monogamy. The film's primary two "couples" are the sex-crazed Stanley (Don Johnson) and ultra-timid Sheila (Laurie Walters), and insecure Harry (Bruno Kirby) and liberated Beth (Victoria Thompson). Founders James Whitmore and Tippi Hedren seem to enjoy the friction they instigate, as well as the graphic sexual episodes that unfold. THE HARRAD EXPERIMENT is a film that could have been made only in the 1970s--a frank commentary on mainstream America's repressed, conventional attitude toward sexuality.
