Entertainment Reviews:
Increasingly tense and benefiting from a well-thought-out script by Tony Gilroy, it finds a slim opening for heroics in a place where all parties are tainted....It will play well with fans of John le Carre-sourced films.
Hollywood Reporter
Anderson packs the film with atmosphere spiked with intrigue. And Hamm gives his role a James Bond-meets-Don Draper appeal, tossing off one-liners with a weary insouciance.
Rolling Stone
BEIRUT, a businesslike spy thriller set in the early 1980s, finally gives Jon Hamm a film role that makes something of the MAD MEN star’s Humphrey Bogart qualities... -- Grade: B-
A.V. Club
Rating: 2.5/5 --
There's political intrigue abound in Beirut. The actors do their jobs well and director Brad Anderson has put together a thriller that sometimes thrills, when it's feeling gracious.

Isolated Nation
Rating: 3.5/5 --
As a personal statement it may belong more to its screenwriter and producer, Tony Gilroy...More shrewdly realistic than the average Hollywood political thriller, Beirut remains open to accusations of self-involvement.

The Age (Australia)
3 stars out of 4 -- Tony Gilroy seems like the perfect writer for Jon Hamm....As such, this is Hamm’s best leading role to date, a reminder of how good he can be when he’s given the right material.
RogerEbert.com
Rating: 3/5 --
Gilroy often fares better with more human elements to ground his often too-complex-by-half plotting, and here the solid cast makes the most of it.
