Description by OLDIES.com:
This oversize box set contains four documentaries on DVD about the life and times of Queen Elizabeth II: THE FIRST WINDSORS, THE KING WHO SAVED THE CROWN, CORONATION BRITAIN-THE MAKING OF A QUEEN and THE QUEEN: A MONARCH FOR ALL SEASONS.
THE FIRST WINDSORS: The Royal House of Windsor began with King George V, who in 1917 changed the royal family name from the German sounding Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, to the very English, Windsor. This unique one hour documentary remembers the first Windsors, and features rare colour film of George and his Queen Mary, as well as remarkable footage of a young Princess Elizabeth, born in 1926.
THE KING WHO SAVED THE CROWN: This is the inspiring story of the man who unexpectedly became King George VI, after his brother Edward VIII s untimely abdication in 1936. With the support of his wife, Queen Elizabeth, George guided the nation through the dark hours of World War II. Remembered for bringing honour and gentle glory to the crown, he was succeeded by his daughter Elizabeth on February 6th 1952.
CORONATION BRITAIN-THE MAKING OF A QUEEN: This is the story of how a shy and petite 25-year-old woman was suddenly and unexpectedly thrust into the limelight, instantly becoming the most famous woman in the world: The Queen of England. Elizabeth II became the head of state of a country still reeling from World War II. Crowned on June 2nd 1953, the nation and empire celebrated the beginning of a new Elizabethan age.
THE QUEEN: A MONARCH FOR ALL SEASONS: Sixty years after her accession to the throne, Queen Elizabeth II remains the calm centre of a tempestuous age. In celebration of her Diamond Jubilee in 2012, this one hour documentary recalls the major events of her life with rare and original archive film. Her long reign has seen sweeping social change in Britain and across the Commonwealth, yet Elizabeth II remains the figurehead of the British monarchy a symbol of continuity and reliability for our time.
