An exciting World War II adventure which centers around the British efforts to destroy two enormous dams in Germany. The film accurately depicts the entire mission from the production of the powerful weapons necessary to destroy the dams to the bombing itself. Academy Award Nominations: Best Special Effects.
Based on historical events, the film depicts the British bombing of a dam in Germany that supplied German munitions factories during World War II, a victory accomplished only through the painstaking invention of a new "bouncing bomb."
- Directorial debut for Michael Anderson who went on to become one of Britain's more prolific directors. Some of the other films he has directed are "Around the World in 80 Days," Conduct Unbecoming," and "All the Fine Young Cannibals." His son is actor Michael Anderson, Jr.
