There’s some appreciable serenity and a lot of personal grief on display in OUT STEALING HORSES...

[The film] effectively plays lush visual storytelling against its characters’ desolate interiors....The result is a heartfelt, attractive arthouse item...

Product Description:

Based on Norwegian novelist Per Petterson's international bestseller, this drama is about a recent widower named Trond (Stellan Skarsgård) who decides to leave the life he has established in Sweden and return to his native Norway, settling down in the area where he grew up with fond memories of his father. Upon returning to his remote countryside home, he encounters an old man named Lars (Bjørn Floberg) who was a pivotal character in his youth. Because of this, he unravels memories of the past that are still haunting him in the present. Directed by Hans Petter Moland.
