Description by OLDIES.com:
The fiercest battles of WWII come to life as never seen before in this stunning collection of one of the most powerful epics in history. With actual footage from all sides of the war in color, this documentary takes you behind enemy lines and to the front lines of the tumultuous campaigns of the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Pacific theatres, where soldiers, sailors and airmen fought in the most defining time in the history of the modern world.
Disc Four:
- Battle Of Anzio, January 1944: The Allies breach the coast of Italy at Anzio with little resistance. But that would prove short-lived as Axis forces use everything in their arsenal to prevent an Allied advance to Rome.
- Battle Of Sicily, mid-1943: Fresh from victory in North Africa, the Allies successfully invade the island of Sicily, staging an eventual Italian withdrawal from the war.
- Battle Of Remagen, March 1945: As Allied troops prepare to storm Germany from the west, a U.S. Army general seizes the bridge at Remagen, marking the first military unit in history to cross the Rhine River.
- Bombing Of Ploesti, July 1943: Stationed in North Africa, 174 Allied B-24 bombers begin a dangerous 13-hour mission to hit Romania's oil refineries.
