Rating: 4.5/5 -- I would be remiss if I didn't mention the tragic, unexpected passing of Anton Yelchin. If Green Room is any indication of what is to come, he was a huge talent with a bright future ahead of him. Full Review
Rating: 3.5/5 -- The film makes the most of its confined settings, choosing to make a more visual impact using gruesome violence rather than witty lines and flashy stunts. Full Review
Rating: 8/10 -- Green Room is a survival thriller that understands the importance of constantly establishing the stakes, raising them higher, and letting people enjoy watching characters try to get out of the increasingly small corner they've put themselves in. Full Review
Way Too Indie
Green Room is punk as hell, and it makes me eager to see Saulnier's next outing. Full Review
What makes GREEN ROOM more than just a giddy, gory slice of gonzo B-movie mayhem, however, is both its ace cast and the vise-tightening mastery of the man pulling the strings behind the camera. -- Grade: A-
A riotous, rough-hewn and rousing punk reinvention of ’70s-style grindhouse exploitation-with-a-brain-cinema.
GREEN ROOM uses its extremist tropes to unpick the more insidious mainstream rhetoric of the American right...
A down-on-their-luck punk band accept an offer to play a rural Oregon club before calling their failing tour quits. When they arrive at the venue, they're troubled by the large neo-Nazi presence, but go through with their set regardless. After playing, they retreat to the backstage room, only to be greeted by a young girl dead on the floor with the neo-Nazi gang members standing above her. Fearful that the band will contact the authorities, they're held hostage in the green room as the gang's leader (Patrick Stewart) thinks of a solution to their sticky situation. The band is soon fighting for their life to survive and escape the dangerous compound. Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, and Alia Shawkat star in this violent cat-and-mouse thriller from BLUE RUIN director Jeremy Saulnier.
