Entertainment Reviews:
Smith’s skills stand her in good stead as Shepherd, whom we meet briefly as a younger woman before the main plot of LADY kicks in.
Washington Post
Smith is literally THE LADY IN THE VAN, Nicholas Hytner’s self-consciously artsy and somewhat slight but tartly funny and occasionally wise adaptation of Alan Bennett’s play of the same name.
Chicago Sun-Times
Smith plays her with equal parts antsy mania and arch, withering skepticism toward all surrounding her -- the latter characteristic very much the actress’s stock-in-trade.
Variety
Rating: 3/4 --
Overall, this warm gem is energized by the captivating Smith that instills this beleaguered Brit bag lady with indescribable exuberance.

The Critical Movie Critics
Smith has picked herself another juicy acting plum....Smith's acid tongue makes any line sound better.
Rolling Stone
Rating: 4/5 --
It's laugh-out-loud funny at times yet simultaneously layered and thought-provoking.

Dog and Wolf
At its best, The Lady in the Van exposes the hypocritical, torn feelings many of us experience around the homeless, old age, and how women are 'supposed' to be.

Product Description:
Truth is stranger than fiction in this comedy-drama based on the real-life tale of a homeless woman named Miss Shepherd (Maggie Smith), who parks her van in the driveway of a house owned by playwright Alan Bennett (Alex Jennings) and lives there for 15 years. Over the course of her stay, the two form a unique friendship. Jim Broadbent, Dominic Cooper, Samuel Barnett, and Frances de la Tour co-star. This adaptation of the 1999 stage hit was directed by Nicholas Hytner (THE HISTORY BOYS).
