Product Description:
From the LA soul jazz underground of the mid 1960s sprang The Afro-Latin Soultet, a combo who effortlessly groove through a blend of boogaloo, Latin jazz, and plenty of percussion-heavy exotica in a loose and free style that is all their own. Formed in the early 1960's in the Boyle Heights section of East Los Angeles, The Afro-Latin Soultet had its rhythm roots in the Barrio of Latin Soul fusion. Members of the legendary band were Jose Romero (keyboards); Antonio Sanchez (guitar); Carlos Mendez (guitar); Freddy Gomez (drums); Cisco "Frisco" Lopez (percussion); Juan Domingo (conga; bongo); Arturo Martinez (trumpet); Poncho Rivera (misc. rhythm); Eddie Mendoza (electric bass); El Mundo (stand-up bass) and Renaldo Chewiwi (reeds). Presented here is "Jazztette," an album they recorded in the mid-1960's that was never released, which now finally sees the light of day in the digital domain to the delight of rare groove fans everywhere. All selections newly remastered.
