Product Description:
American jazz cornettist, composer, and bandleader Red Nichols is rumored to have appeared on over 4,000 recordings during the 1920s alone. In 1926 he and trombonist Miff Mole began recording with a variety of bands, most of them known as "Red Nichols and His Five Pennies," although very few of these groups were actually quintets. Alumnus of Nichols' bands include Jimmy Dorsey (alto sax and clarinet), Benny Goodman (clarinet), Glenn Miller (trombone), Jack Teagarden (trombone), Pee Wee Russell (clarinet), Joe Venuti (violin), Eddie Lang (banjo and guitar), and Gene Krupa (drums) - a veritable Who's Who of important white jazz musicians. Presented here is a 14 track collection of some of Nichols' greatest recordings. All selections newly remastered.
