Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 1/5 --
The writing is perfunctory, the performances are amateurish. And you couldn't care less if the whole lot of them are sliced and diced by the mad tramp.

Times (UK)
Rating: 3/5 --
Summer Scars develops into something altogether more disturbing, with a climax as brutal as any Hollywood slasher.
Little White Lies
Rating: 3/5 --
Despite the snappy running time, Scars is occasionally unfocused - until its fiercely sadistic final 20 minutes, which coil the uneasy mood into something unexpectedly distressing.

Richards' film may be an ultra-low budget affair, but it is also a punchy thriller... where social realism clashes with the fairytale symbolism of the deep dark woods.

Eye for Film
Rating: 2/5 --
Richards opts for grimy realism over stalk'n'slash, but he doesn't appear to possess the cinematic chops to make it work.

Product Description:
When a group of 14 year olds play hooky and hide out in the woods, they are befriended by a charismatic drifter. All is jolly and fun until the friend suddenly takes them hostage and shows his sadistic side. The teens' only chance at survival: embrace their dark side and fight fire with fire.
Description by TLA Releasing:
This confrontational coming-of-age thriller is a haunting look into the destruction of innocence and the depths of fear. When a gang of raucous teens play hooky in the woods, they cross paths with a mysterious drifter. Preying on their adolescent curiosity and naiveté, the sadistic vagabond easily wins them over only to inflict humiliating and torturous mind games with a rusty switchblade and a gun. Trembling and desperate these kids realize that their only chance at survival is to embrace the darkness within and fight back with some wicked games of their own.
