One Man (Blu-ray) PG

In the midst of investigating a Montreal hospital, journalist Jason Brady, portrayed by Len Cariou, crosses paths with concerned citizen Marion Galbraith, played by Carol Lazare. Marion reveals a disturbing truth: local children are being poisoned by a nearby factory. As the victims succumb to the poison, Brady realizes the urgency of the situation, but encounters resistance and peril at every step. His obsession with the story intensifies, complicating his relationship with his wife Alicia, portrayed by Jayne Eastwood, just as powerful and unscrupulous forces threaten violent retribution against him, his family, and his wife.

Directed by Robin Spry, a year prior to his impactful drug drama "Drying Up the Streets," "One Man" blends elements of a prestige issue film, conspiracy thriller, and Canuxploitation crime saga. The film, reminiscent of classic TV movies from the 1970s, earned seven Canadian Film Awards and features a stellar Canadian supporting cast, including Miguel Fernandes, Terry Haig, Jean Lapointe, Marc Legault, Barry Morse, August Schellenberg, Sean Sullivan, and cult filmmaker Larry Kent. Witty yet unsettling, "One Man" stands out as a unique Canadian cinematic experience.

The bonus features of this release include a 2K restoration of the film from the 16mm interpositive by the National Film Board of Canada, an audio commentary by filmmaker and historian Stephen Broomer, and new interviews with Robin Spry's sister Lib Spry and longtime collaborator Bob Presner. Additionally, the set includes five short films directed by Spry, a short film written and directed by "One Man" co-writer Peter Pearson, and a short film written by co-writer Peter Madden. Rounding out the collection are a bonus short, theatrical trailer, and a booklet featuring a new interview with star Len Cariou, all accompanied by English SDH subtitles.
