I will not pretend I understood the meaning of every single image I saw, or that I am fully behind Aleksandr Sokurov's views. But I am very happy to have taken this trip through the Louvre, and he sure is an able and knowledgeable guide. Full Review

Rating: 4/5 -- This is graceful and provocative filmmaking. It works both as art history and as an account of wartime Paris under German occupation. Full Review

Francofonia (2015) bristles at labeling. The latest whatsit by Russian titan Alexander Sokurov moves comfortably between categories. It stands three paces to the right of the essay film and three paces to the left of the docudrama. Full Review

Product Description:

A tour of the Louvre serves as a meditation on art in this experimental film, which explores how the museum avoided being plundered during the Nazi occupation of World War II, and depicts the ghost of Napoleon and the spirit of France wandering among the exhibits. Directed by Alexander Sokurov.
