Rating: 1.5/5 -- Director Christian Ditter paints a pretty but hollow, hetero-normative and infuriating portrait of singledom. Full Review

Rating: 1.5/4 -- Unfortunately, How to be Single is annoyingly jittery and woefully generic. The characterizations all feel synthetic and the contrived dilemmas for how these young women cope with men of uncertainty, reluctance and absurdity fall flat Full Review

Rating: 2.5/5 -- "How to Be Single" is short of phenomenal, eliciting thoughtful themes only with the ingredients for greatness, not the recipe. Full Review

Rating: B- -- A film with plenty of flaws but also fleeting moments of insights into relationships that make it more fun than I was expecting. Full Review

Rating: 3/5 -- It doesn't go for as much low-brow humor as you would expect judging from the trailer, but instead likes to use all of its intertwining characters and stories to again, just explore the different lifestyles, benefits, and freedoms of being single. Full Review
Flickering Myth
Dec 3, 2017
No amount of "hey, at least they seem to be trying" can excuse the phoned-in plotting and prefab, contrived wish-fulfillment that passes for a screenplay. Full Review

[D]irector Christian Ditter pulls off a pretty tricky feat in balancing the film’s pervasive bawdiness with moments of real substance and heart.

Product Description:

Four women with vastly different ideas about love and relationships navigate the single life of New York City. Taking a break from her long-term boyfriend Josh (Nicholas Braun), Alice (Dakota Johnson) sets out on a journey of self-discovery with her hard-drinking new friend Robin (Rebel Wilson). Meanwhile, Alice's career-driven older sister Meg (Leslie Mann) struggles with the idea of settling down, and uptight romantic Lucy (Alison Brie) searches for her perfect match. Adapted from former SEX AND THE CITY writer Liz Tuccillo's debut novel, this modern rom com was directed by Christian Ditter.
