Entertainment Reviews:
The catastrophic nature of the 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean that opens the fact-based drama THE IMPOSSIBLE is rendered with nightmarish realism by Spanish director J.A. Bayona...
Washington Post
[I]ts visceral force is more aggressive, its emotions cut deeper and its intelligence makes fiercely affecting work of close-to-the-bone material.

The Impossible may be schmaltz, but it's damn good schmaltz. It's the kind of story that is so incredible, so impossible, that it can only be true.

It might seem a noble project, aiming to show the rest of the world what hell some endured. But even a dramatic film can only suggest part of the experience. And I fear The Impossible might serve only to trivialize that experience.

[The Impossible] shows us devastation, yes, unbelievable havoc, yes, horrific human loss, yes. But also, exemplary courage and love and compassion, all done with freshness and feeling.

Product Description:
Director Juan Antonio Bayona follows up his critically-acclaimed feature debut THE ORPHANAGE with this drama set during the 2004 tsunami, and detailing one family's incredible fight for survival. Inspired by actual events, THE IMPOSSIBLE opens on December 26th, as Henry (Ewan McGregor), his wife Maria (Naomi Watts), and their three sons lounge poolside following an eventful Christmas. But just as the family begins to forget their troubles and settle in for a relaxing tropical getaway, one of the worst natural disasters in modern history changes their lives in the blink of an eye. Meanwhile, as shock gives way to abject horror, the devoted parents fight to protect their children, encountering scenes heart-wrenching tragedy and experiencing acts of incredible compassion as the entire country of Thailand is engulfed in chaos. Tom Hollander and Geraldine Chaplin co-star.
