LaBruce ... [is] angling either for tragedy or an arch jab at the coldness of sexual conquest. I only wish he had let his conceit ripen long enough for us to tell. Full Review

3 stars out of 4 -- It's about cherishing impulsivity over introspection, and amassing life experiences without fear of negative consequences.

Rating: 2/5 -- Gerontophilia is rather reminiscent of a student film, and I don't mean that it has the fire of youth. It is restrained by a rank amateurism that borders on embarrassing. Full Review

Rating: 1.75/5 -- Life is short; there are much better ways to fritter away 90 minutes of it than by watching Gerontophilia. Full Review

The tears are false, the performance is hammy, it's all rather ridiculous, but it still hurts a little, and then you remember what makes [director Bruce] LaBruce so special. Full Review

Mr. Borden, an acclaimed Canadian stage actor and playwright, turns in a slyly entertaining performance. But the relationship between Lake and Melvyn feels a bit more one-sided than perhaps was intended. Full Review

Rating: 3/4 -- This is a comedy that encourages viewers to be impulsive, and pointedly seek love and acceptance outside of "normal" social institutions, especially when it comes to family and romance. Full Review

Product Description:

A teenage boy with a fetish for elderly men lands a summer job at a retirement community, where his growing bond with a rebellious resident leads to a life altering road trip. Despite the fact that Lake (Pier-Gabriel Lajoie) and his girlfriend Désirée (Katie Boland) have been together for a long time, lately Lake has been wondering whether his obsession with old men may have a sexual component. When Lake's mother lands him a summer job at a local retirement community, any lingering doubts are laid to rest as the conflicted teen starts to fall for Mr. Peabody (Walter Borden), a patient who regales the smitten young man with romanticized tales of his youth. Disturbed by the discovery that the patients are being administered psychotropic drugs to keep them complacent, and determined to fulfill Mr. Peabody's wish to see the Pacific Ocean one last time, Lake carefully begins to cut the dosage before helping the old man stage a daring escape. Later, posing as a boy and his grandfather as they make their way to the sea, Lake and Mr. Peabody learn that true love doesn't discriminate by age.
