Harry Bluestone With Vito Mumolo Artistry In Jazz

Prolific violinist Harry Bluestone was known mainly for his work composing music for movies and television but early on he freelanced on radio in the 1930's with the big bands of Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman and the Dorsey Brothers, and played with Bix Beiderbeck, Bunny Berigan and Red Nichols. After enlisting in the air force in 1942, Bluestone organized both the Army Air Force Orchestra and the Army Air Force Training Command Orchestra that replaced Glenn Miller. After the war he put together his own orchestra which backed vocalists Jo Stafford and Dinah Shore. Although he spent the majority of his career setting up various music publishing houses, Harry would get out his violin or baton to work on albums by the Beach Boys, Peggy Lee and can be heard on the Beatles groundbreaking Sgt. Peppers album. It was during sessions like these that he met studio guitarist Vito Mumolo who worked with artists such as Elvis Presley, Doris Day, Frankie Laine and Del Shannon, and can be heard on the theme to the popular Andy Griffith TV show. The rare album presented here features the violin/guitar duo of Bluestone and Mumolo playing in the style of Eddie Lang and Joe Venuti; the groundbreaking guitar/violin tandem that graced the early recordings of Louis Armstrong and Bing Crosby, and also provided the inspiration for violinist Stephane Grappelli and guitarist Django Reinhardt to form the Hot Club Of France - which in turn would revolutionize the European jazz world. Originally recorded in the late 1970's, "Artistry In Jazz" is finally available in the digital domain - all selections newly remastered.
