Rating: 1/4 -- Half home movie, half product placement, and almost completely worthless.

Rating: 3/4 -- Dash is a good sport in poking barbed fun at the PR machinations of today's music business. Full Review

Rating: 1.5/4 -- There is a funny movie to be made from the outrageous egos and excesses of rap music. Death of a Dynasty is not that movie.
Philadelphia Inquirer

Rating: 3/5 -- Watching Damon Dash's playful movie is like entering a room where a large, too noisy party is going on and never fully adjusting to the dark or the din. Full Review

Truly terrible for plenty of reasons, not the least of which being Damon Dash's barely competent directing. Full Review

Rating: B- -- Definitely funny as the hip-hop world pokes fun at itself and others, but it's frequently pointless, especially as the "plot" unfolds. Full Review

Rating: 2.5/4 -- This narcissistic mockumentary is less a film than a full-length promotional video for Roc-a-Fella Records mogul/director Damon Dash.

Product Description:

A satirical look at the hip-hop music industry, DEATH OF A DYNASTY recalls other music business comedies like FEAR OF A BLACK HAT or THIS IS SPINAL TAP. By using real-life figures and organizations as characters and settings, the film creates a documentary-like atmosphere. Dave Katz is a white reporter who works for the hip-hop magazine The Mic, and is sent by his editor to write a story on Roc-A-Fella records, run by Damon Dash (the director of the film, and played by rapper Capone). As Katz is slowly taken into confidence by Dash, and experiences the wild world of music, booze, and ladies at the studio, he begins to believe himself an insider at the successful company. But when he begins to sell gossip about the rappers at the company to the tabloids, his career takes a turn for the worst.
