Part of Collectables' 1995 series, this brings together 25 tracks originally issued by Herald Records. The big hits here are the Nutmegs' "Story Untold," Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs' "Stay," and "Mixed Up, Shook Up Girl" by Patti & the Emblems. But an off-the-wall delight like the Four Seasons-ish surrealism of the Concords' "Marlene" is almost worth the price of admission alone. Also along for the ride are the Turbans, the Mello-Kings, the Smart Tones, the Dynamics, the Thrillers, the 5 Willows, the Premeers, and Little Butchie Saunders, who turns in an interesting Frankie Lymon kiddie vocal on "Linda Lou." Like the other volumes in this series, there are no liner notes or recording information -- typical of early Collectables packaging -- but the transfers are squeaky clean and the music is top-notch all the way. ~ Cub Koda
