When The Coasters formed in 1955, I was barely formed myself; I was somewhere in year one of life. But, The Coasters were always lingering in the back of my musical memory. Recently I've really been delving back in time to the music that first tickled my very young mind around 5 or 6 years of age. When I saw this double CD set here for such a low price, it was perfect timing for me to dive in.
First, don't let the fact that it is an import CD on the Not Now label. This is a fine collection with sparling, alive audio. You will be pleased.
Musically, these guys have it all - voices, personality, great studio musicians, production and most importantly, in my book, great songwriting. Obviously it's the Lieber/Stoller partnership that made a huge difference in their career. But it doesn't stop there: Add in some Doc Pomus, Darin, Kirshner and you have some serious songwriters on your team. No tear-jerkers here...you’re gonna laugh! If you haven’t heard Young Blood in several years (or decades) give it a listen and see if you don’t laugh out loud.
