While not the gruesome horror that many fans...might have hoped for, the restraint and respect for the finer details and speculations of Lizzie's case are to be admired Full Review

The elegantly lurid but compelling LIZZIE, written by Bryce Kass, directed by Craig William Macneill and produced by Chloe Sevigny in her best form in the title role, carves out of the raw material a suitably 2018 version, befitting of the #MeToo generation.

Rating: 8/10 -- Lizzie is heavily influenced by old-school horror flicks, with the soundtrack emphasizing the creaks and groans of the ancient house and the soft glow of a candle turning a hallway into a mass of imposing shadows. Full Review

Rating: 3/4 -- For all the horror of her situation, Lizzie needed some larger motivation to wield her axe. Lizzie dramatically provides it. Full Review

Product Description:

Director Craig William Macneill and writer Bryce Kass provide a novel perspective on the notorious 1892 trial of Lizzie Borden, who was accused of murdering her father and stepmother with an axe. Chloe Sevigny stars as Lizzie, an independent-minded and cloistered young woman living under her rich's father domineering will. The arrival of a new Irish immigrant maid (Kristen Stewart) leads to her lesbian sexual awakening, and to the ultimate explosion of rage and violence.
