[A] major Pabst work, a brisk, romantic adventure set against the Russian Revolution and its aftermath.
Los Angeles Times
Product Description:
Directed by the German master G.W. Pabst (PANDORA'S BOX), THE LOVE OF JEANNE NEY is one of Pabst's most satisfying and haunting films, and one that has only been available in a truncated form for most of the 20th century. Here, Kino on Video presents the film in its longest available version, complete with a full orchestral score. Set in post WWI Europe, the film stars Uno Hemming as Andreas, a young Bolshevik who murders his lover's uncle for an act of treason. He advises Jeanne, his lover, to flee to Paris and live with her uncle. However, the cunning Khalibiev has set into motion a plot to kill her uncle, marry her cousin, and wrest the family fortune from its rightful heirs. When Khalibiev does kill the uncle, he successfully frames Andreas for the crime causing Jeanne to ask his help in proving Andreas' innocence. Mixing the style of a Hollywood blockbuster with that of a classic German expressionist film, THE LOVE OF JEANNE NEY is a haunting classic.
