The 2004 album by this Latin rock trio refines the band's mix of rock, pop, and Tropicalismo tendencies. Based in Miami, Florida, Colombian guitarist/singer/songwriter Jorge Villamizar, Brazilian bassist Andres Lopes, and Puerto Rican drummer Jose Javier Freire mix North American popular music with the influences of their native countries to make music that is breezy and immediately appealing. In addition to their frothy mix of influences and tight song structures, it is Villamizar's penchant for pop hooks and catchy melodies that garners attention.
The expansive, lighter-in-the-air feel of the acoustic-guitar-driven opening cut, "Sangre America," is a case in point, as is the sunny, campfire sing-along of "Colores Colores." There is a lovely, romantic, bolero-touched ballad in "Miro la Luna y Pienso en Ti," but the surging dancehall/salsa vibe of "Feliz Conmigo" shows that Bacilos also knows how to party. Fans of Manu Chao's quirky, mixed-bag sonics will enjoy the dynamic, multicultural pop sensibility that Bacilos hones on SINVERGUENZA.
