Entertainment Reviews:
Thankfully, Norton tempers the temptation to turn Lionel into a walking catalog of tics and actorly affectations, carving out space for the thoughtful, morally centered man who lives between the yips and twitches.
Entertainment Weekly
Rating: 2/5 --
Its homage to film noir is over-the-top and borderline parodic -- at times, it's more Who Framed Roger Rabbit? than Chinatown.
Independent (UK)
Rating: 6/10 --
The neo-noir that Ed Norton gambled on didn't hit the mark but it's admirable that someone put out an old-style movie in a world of franchise hits and Oscar-bait entries.

As it is, his passionate commitment to the story has resulted in the very definition of a vanity project.

My only criticism is that it does take its time, because it's not afraid to indulge in its story...but those moment are far fewer than I thought, and the story is not hard to follow.

Kermode & Mayo's Film Review
Norton’s taste in collaborators and themes is impeccable. The musical score, with its Elmer Bernstein echoes, is by Daniel Pemberton, and is supplemented by Wynton Marsalis’s fresh, precise interpretations of period-appropriate jazz classics.
New York Times
3 stars out of 5 -- Norton is excellent as the usually calm, rational Lionel, who seems to share his brain with an anarchist.

Product Description:
Edward Norton writes, directs and stars—alongside Bruce Willis, Leslie Mann, Alec Baldwin, and Willem Dafoe—in this adaptation of Jonathan Lethem's 1999 novel of the same name. He plays a private detective living with Tourette's syndrome in 1950s New York City. His determination to solve the murder of his best friend and mentor takes him through the Harlem jazz scene, the Brooklyn slums, and into the ranks of the city's most powerful men.
