Entertainment Weekly - 1/11/91B "After all, Mozart wrote mood music, too."
Q - 1/913 Stars - Good "As always, Sample's generosity of writing allows other instruments to entwine themselves with his own ivory- tickling, to create vivid patterns."
Stereo Review (4/91) - Performance "Easy listening" / Recording "Good" - "Sample is a simplifier, presenting well-crafted but hummable and danceable songs that retain some of the feeling and flavor of jazz without its intellectual demands...consistently appealing and carefully crafted music with a sometimes poignant edge."

Joe Sample's recordings throughout much of his career have been consistent and quite interchangeable. Backed by a semi-metronomic if usually grooving rhythm section, Sample's acoustic piano on this Warner Bros. CD is almost always in the lead, playing easy listening jazz-pop. The lightweight melodies are quite easy to take, and serve as excellent background music. ~ Scott Yanow
