Jason Bergman, Jared Pierce & Brian Bowman Be Still My Soul: Songs Of Hope & Inspiration

These hymns and songs are shared with the intent to bring hope to those who listen. Many of the songs on this album are familiar to listeners from across the globe. The universally loved Amazing Grace in McKee's new arrangement is infused with newly composed music that compliments it in a reverent way. Be Still My Soul, based upon one of Jean Sibelius' most memorable melodies, is heard here in an arrangement for trumpet, cello and piano that is arranged by Kurt Bestor. Michelle Kesler's performance here adds a compelling dimension to the work. Beautiful Savior is more commonly known as the Crusader s Hymn. Rob Gardner's arrangement is engaging, as are Brian Blanchard's soaring musical lines on the French horn. John Rutter's engaging What Sweeter Music beautifully blends the trumpet and euphonium. The expressive playing and rich sound of euphonium legend Brian Bowman are an extraordinary addition to the piece. A Simple Song taken from Leonard Bernstein's Mass, sounds like popular music in parts, yet is deeply moving, referencing God even in the opening chord, which is comprised of the notes G and D. Der Engel from Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder features text that tells of an angel who comforts those seeking peace and consolation. Many famous singers, including Mahalia Jackson, Willie Nelson and Elvis have recorded Just a Closer Walk With Thee. The Canadian Brass perform it as their first encore. The jazz-inspired arrangement on this album by Joseph Palmer recalls a few of the many styles that have been used with this piece before. The Salvation Army has a rich musical tradition, a part of that being Joy Webb's Share My Yoke, a gorgeous work for trumpet and brass band; it is here performed by trumpet and piano. Many of the songs on this album are sung throughout the world as beloved hymns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I Am a Child of God, I Feel My Savior's Love and I'm Trying To Be Like Jesus are children's songs performed here in refreshing new arrangements. Crawford Gates' Our Savior's Love, a testament to God's love for His children, is heard in a compelling and reverent arrangement by Christopher Madsen. Savior Redeemer of My Soul has been made famous by artists such as Dallyn Bayles and Jenny Oaks-Baker. Alexander Woods' moving violin performance on the album pairs beautifully with the solo trumpet. Finally, Peter Meechan's Song of Hope is a recently composed piece dedicated to Ryan Anthony, Emeritus Principal Trumpet of the Dallas Symphony and a former member of the Canadian Brass. After being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2012, Ryan decided to fight cancer with music, which led to the establishment of the Ryan Anthony Foundation and Cancer Blows large-scale events which bring together leading trumpet players in moving concerts.

American trumpeter Jason Bergman has performed throughout the United States, South America, Europe and China. He is currently a member of the Orchestra at Temple Square where he performs weekly with the renowned Tabernacle Choir in Salt Lake City. In 2008, Bergman was named Associate Principal Trumpet of the Santiago Philharmonic in Chile and more recently has been Principal Trumpet of the Mobile Symphony Orchestra and Mobile Opera. He has also performed with the Utah Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Dallas Opera and Fort Worth Symphony, as well as with the Dallas Winds on their Grammy-nominated album featuring music of John Williams. Additionally, Bergman has performed in concert with the Canadian Brass, Rhythm & Brass and with conductor David Robertson at Carnegie Hall as part of the Weill Music Institute. He performed as a fellow at the Music Academy of the West, and has given recitals and master classes at numerous institutions worldwide.
