Marian Duncan (Talmadge), an American dancer, climaxes her theatrical success in Russia by becoming the fiancee of Valdimire Orloff (Carminati), a young army officer, unaware that the Grand Duke Alexandrovich (Martindel) is also in love with her. Enraged over his rival the Duke wants Orloff arrested. Marian flees with her lover to another city. There the citizens and soldiers believe Marian and Orloff to be a grand duchess and her adjutant.
