Filmed in what used to be Venice's 18th century prize opera house, this production of LA TRAVIATA stars Slovak soprano Edita Gruberova, Neil Shicoff, and Giorgio Zancanaro. The La Fenice theatre housed another production of the same opera in 1853, years before burning to the ground in 1996. Now fully rebuilt, the stage comes to life with Gurberova's stunning performance as the doomed heroine Violetta, who is forced to choose between love and her family's honor.
