Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail (Wiener Staatsoper)

The Wiener Staatsoper mounted this epic-length 1989 production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's 1782 opera Die Entführung aus dem Serail, with Brian Large directing. The work dramatizes Belmonte and his servant Pedrillo's attempts to rescue the beautiful Kostanze from the Pasha Selim. This particular version stars Hilmar Thate as Selim, Kurt Streit as Belmonte, Aga Winska as Konstanze and Wilfried Gahmlich as Pedrillo. Karl Ernst-Herrmann designed the costumes and sets; the Orchestra and Chorus of the Wiener Staatsoper provide musical accompaniment, with Nikolaus Harnoncourt conducting.
