Product Description:
One of the most unique and innovative composers of the modern era, Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) introduced many stylistic innovations into the classical idiom throughout the course of his career. He frequently used what he termed modes of limited transposition, which he formulated in conjunction with a mathematician friend, and are not related to church modes. During the early 1950s, he became interested in dodecaphony, and is considered to be a pioneer in the field of serialism. Presented here is a very special audiophile recording, originally recorded around 1959, of his famous composition "Poèmes pour Mi" - an early song cycle written in 1936, sung here by soprano Lise Arseguest with the composer at the piano.
