Product Description:
Singer, songwriter, and bandleader of the 1930s and 1940s, Pinky Tomlin got his first big break when, at age 16, he was hired to play on a riverboat in St. Louis, with the Louis Armstrong band. He came to national attention while still attending college when he submitted his original composition, "The Object of My Affection," to orchestra leader Jimmie Grier, who accepted it and asked Pinky himself to introduce it to the public. The song became a huge hit and Tomlin went on to star in four musical features for Melody Pictures in 1937-38, for which he also wrote the scores. He took his own band on the road in 1939 and 1940, which was a huge success. In 1963, he came out of his self imposed retirement from the music business to record the wonderful record presented here with the famous Nelson Riddle orchestra, featuring many of Pinky's original compositions including his signature song, "The Object of My Affection." All selections newly remastered.
