Teldec launched its Ligeti Project in mid-2001: a unique, large-scale exculsive contract with the distinguished Hungarian composer. Gyorgy Ligeti's career spans a half century of acheivement and multiple international honors; his music is widely performed and is heard on the soundtracks of three of Stanley Kubrick's films. The Ligeti Project will eventually cover all aspects of Ligeti's career development, including world-premiere works. This CD showcases a series of evocative orchestral works from the 1950s and 60s. Ligeti himself is involved in the sessions and all aspects of production, including the choice of artists.
