Product Description:
A classic collection of Israeli folk songs recorded in 1956 sung by authentic Israeli singers Hillel and Aviva expresses and reflects the beauty of Israel more than any other creative expression. Only in the folk music will we find the most authentic reflections of the integration of many different cultures and communities that have come from the Diaspora to Israel. We can find the Hora - a unifying and exciting dance - expressing more than anything else the founding of a young new society in Israel. We can also find the Arabic Debkas, Yemenite and Hasidic dances and other festival songs, as influenced by the new society that was founded in Israel. The youth, labor and kibbutz movements did a great deal to popularize many of the folksongs and the government began to exploit the music as a way of establishing a new national identity and to promote the Hebrew language to newly arrived immigrants. The national labor organization went so far as to establish a music publishing house that produced songbooks and encouraged public sing-alongs. This tradition of public sing-alongs survives to this day and has become a staple of modern Israeli culture. All selections newly remastered.
