Rating: 4/5 -- It's beautifully filmed and perfectly played. The final shot is as epic as it is heartbreaking. Full Review

Rating: 3.5/4 -- There may not be an indie darling quite like The Last Black Man in San Francisco in 2019, and that's because few films will feel as singular in their vision. Full Review

Rating: 2/5 -- The Last Black Man in San Francisco has a bad case of whimsicality. There is no cure for this except sour lemons, which Joe Talbot's film invites critics to throw. Full Review

The Last Black Man in San Francisco has an ecstatic, almost hallucinatory beauty reminiscent of Godfrey Reggio's Koyaanisqatsi-style visions. But really, this isn't all that comparable to anything you've seen before. Full Review

Rating: 3/5 -- This interplay between an almost documentary authenticity and obviously sculpted political allegorical, then between fiction and reality, imbue the film with an odd intensity. Full Review

Rating: 4/5 -- It's less of a rallying cry against gentrification than a rumination on the kind of pained acceptance those who suffer its effects must face.

Rating: 4/5 -- The men behind The Last Black Man in San Francisco aren't trying to be cool or sleek. That's the last thing on their minds and probably explains why they do such a fine job of standing out from the crowd. Full Review

Product Description:

Jimmie (Jimmie Fails), who lives with his best friend Mont (Jonathan Majors) and Mont's disabled dad (Danny Glover) in San Francisco, is obsessed with the idea of buying back and inhabiting his grandfather's two-story Victorian in the Fillmore. The house was built by Jimmie's grandfather, and he knows that with his meager earnings from working in a elderly care facility, he will never afford to buy the house, now nestled in a primarily white, affluent area. But he refuses to be phased out, regularly visiting and entering the house to dream as the city around him changes. Directed by Joe Talbot.
