Wheeler (Stephen Dorff), a would-be country musician from small-town Texas, journeys to Nashville in an attempt to make a name for himself. There, he performs his material for the locals, meets country stars like Kris Kristofferson, and tries to break into the industry. Dorff wore prosthetic makeup while playing the title role, which allowed him to perform in character at real-life Nashville venues.
