Product Description:

In this album, recorded while he held a Guggenheim Fellowship, Canadian ethnomusicologist Dr. Marius Barbeau (1883-1969) shares the seminal events of his life, from boyhood to Canadian-Indian folklorist. Interspersed with his own renditions of Canadian-Indian folk songs, Barbeau tells of his early experiences with the Indians whose narrative and musical traditions inspired his academic career. He talks about his extensive fieldwork, recording songs of warriors, medicine men, and coastal and mountain Indians, including the Huron and Iroquois tribes. The liner notes include an essay by Dr. Barbeau about his fieldwork and photos of some of the people and events he discusses.
