Product Description:

Hi, everybody! I'm Genevieve Conaty and "Your Own Brand of Candy" is my debut album. We recorded the whole album between April and August of 2011, when I hooked up with the extremely versatile producer Gawain Mathews and we cooked up this delicious musical smorgasbord for you at his studio in San Pablo, California. Some of these songs have been brewing for years and some of them are brand-new this year. You'll find a healthy m‚lange of genres and styles - a little bit country, a little bit rock 'n roll, a little bit R&B, a little bit punk. We have songs about summer, food, music, falling in love, breaking up, finding your true nature, and losing someone close to you. Storywise, we have everything from a fresh take on Adam & Eve to a mad scientist fantasy to a workplace sex farce. Gawain plays lots of different guitars and bass guitars on this album, along with dobro, piano, organ, glockenspiel, djembe, bongos, tambourine, shakers, and some unlikely objects we found around the studio like a handful of coins and a trowel and fork. We also teamed up with the powerful and witty drummer Kyle Caprista, who brings his signature creative drum style to most of these songs, not to mention his great high-harmony vocals on "The Night Eve Came into My Yard" and "Good Eater." Rich Armstrong was our one-man horn section for "Second Nature," and David Johnson embodied the spirit of rock (even channeling a bit of Bowie?) in his backing vocals for "Rock Steady." The last song on the album, 'Promotion,' features the truly gorgeous vocal work of Karyn Paige, a rising star of Bay Area music. Justin Weis polished our sound to a high shine through the mastering process at Trakworx in south San Francisco. Finally, Ria Dastidar designed the cover of my dreams at her Uberpup studio in London. I feel very lucky to have gone on this crazy-fun musical journey with so many talented people in 2011, and I hope you enjoy listening to our record as much as we enjoyed making it for you.
