A reread of the Grimm tales may make this more of a film buff's outing, but frankly one shouldn't have to work so hard to make sense of these meanderings.

Doesn't toy with the concept nearly enough for my tastes, content to be a vaguely quirky dark comedy.
Film Blather
Product Description:
A genre-bending update of the Hansel and Gretel story, GRIMM is a Dutch film directed by Alex van Warmerdam. Young adults Jacob and Marie are abandoned in the woods by their father, with only a note in Jacob's pocket to guide them: advice from their mother to travel to Spain and see their wealthy uncle. When they reach the warm and sunny country, a far cry from their cold and snowy home, Marie meets the sinister Don Diego, who charms and marries her, much to Jacob's displeasure. His suspicions may be well-founded, however, when he discovers that Diego is involved in criminal activities that put both he and Marie at risk. Combining black comedy, mystery, suspense, and absurdity, GRIMM is a unique Dutch fairy tale.
