Tannhäuser: Wagner: National Theatre of Munich

German opera master Richard Wagner was known his melodrama and grandeur. A figure whose works and persona were larger than life, Wagner remains one of the most significant figures in the history of opera. This performance of his romantic opera, TANNHAUSER, was staged at Munich's National Theatre and conducted by the subversive David Alden. Video director Brian Large filmed the performance over three days in September 1994 and captures a TANNHAUSER that is as powerful as it was on the day it was written.
