Description by OLDIES.com:

THE SUPREMES. MARTHA REEVES & THE VANDELLAS. MARVIN GAYE. THE ISLEY BROTHERS. THE FOUR TOPS

You know their names. But do you know why you know their names? You know them because of songs like "(Love Is Like A) Heat Wave," "Where Did Our Love Go,""Baby I Need Your Loving," "Baby Love," "Come See About Me," "Stop! In The Name Of Love,""I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)," "Can I Get A Witness," "This Old Heart Of Mine (Is Weak For You)," "Jimmy Mack"... the list goes on and on.And you know all these songs - and the artists who sang them - thanks to three men: The composer/producer team of Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Edward Holland, Jr.

"This is a story of American popular song. The inseparable names of Holland/Dozier/Holland belong to a continuity which embraces the Gershwins, Ellington, Rodgers and Hart, Lerner and Lowe, Porter, Mancini, Dylan, Bacharach and David, Webb, Wilson. The extraordinary talent, drive and good fortune of Eddie, Lamont and Brian yieldedsome of the most remarkable records of the 20th Century... and these songs have passed from one century to the next." - Adam White, from the liner notes

From 1963 to 1967, Holland/Dozier/Holland was the chief hitmaking engine of the Motown machine. They departed the company in 1968 to found their own venture, Invictus/Hot Wax, which launched the careers of The Chairmen Of The Board and Freda Payne (among others), and composer/producer/band leader McKinley Jackson. In the mid-'70s, they returned to the Motown fold and delivered hits for the Jackson 5, The Supremes, Eddie Kendricks and The Originals.

This collection features 65 tracks spanning 1961-2003, including 44 Top Ten hits (14 ofthose being No.1s), and is the first comprehensive history of these great American songwriters, compiled with the full involvement of Lamont Dozier and the Holland Brothers. Liner notes by famed music historian and former "Billboard" editor Adam White.
