MONTE WALSH director William Fraker had a long, distinguished career as a cinematographer, and his debut feature looks soft, hazy, and up to date for 1970. -- Grade: B

Rating: 4/5 -- Less a plot-driven Western oater, Monte Walsh is more a slow-moving but satisfying contemplation on the end days of the cowboy life. Full Review

Because the filmmakers realized it was dull, they livened it up with cliches from more conventional westerns. There is a saloon fight and a bunkhouse brawl and a chase and: even a final gundown. The last low key and unconvincing. Full Review

Product Description:

Set during the turn of the century, MONTE WALSH is the story of a cowboy who slowly comes to realize that he has become an anachronism. In a reversal of the usual type of role he plays, in this film Palance is one of the "good guys."
