Rating: 3/4 -- A hell of a trip through the mind of a different filmmaker that will be relevant in the near future. [Full review in Spanish] Full Review

There's much to admire about Panos Cosmatos' directorial debut, but the end result is admittedly not for all tastes. Full Review

Rating: 3.5/4 -- Fanboy homage meets surrealist fantasia, an incredible journey into a bygone era's bleak vision of the future, emerging from the dustbin of cinema history with something wholly, thrillingly, wonderfully new. Full Review

Rating: 9/10 -- A film for people who might call Stalker their favorite movie of all time if only it were more opaque. So, you know, a little audience, but a passionate one. Full Review

Rating: 1/4 -- Much of the time, watching Beyond the Black Rainbow is accompanied by head scratching, but perhaps that's the point of this trippy outing. Full Review

For devotees of science-fiction cinema at its most synapse-frying and voluptuously horrifying, the mother lode is exactly what [writer/director Panos] Cosmatos delivers. Full Review

Rating: 1/4 -- The movie looks like it was lit by lava lamps, scored on Moog synthesizers, written between bong hits and acted underwater. None of this is meant as praise.

Product Description:

Filmmaker Panos Cosmatos offers an idiosyncratic sci-fi vision in this futuristic fantasy. In the year 1983, Dr. Mercurio Arboria (Scott Hylands) is a physician who, working with the government, has created a new program of physical therapy and medicine which is intended to bring people greater happiness and freedom than they've ever enjoyed before. However, one of the test subjects in Arboria's new scheme, Elena (Eva Allan), isn't so impressed -- she spends her days in a drug-addled haze while kept in a massive hospital complex against her will. Dr. Barry Nyle (Michael Rogers) is looking after Elena's day-to-day progress with the help of his nurse Margo (Rondel Reynoldson), but his efforts to reshape her mind are only so successful, and in time Elena becomes just conscious enough of her circumstances to plan an escape. BEYOND THE BLACK RAINBOW received its North American premiere at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival.
