Taos, New Mexico resident singer songwriter Don Michael Sampson has been making great alternative country records for many years, long before the term alt country was coined. He is a songsmith of the highest order, as his consistently rewarding albums can attest - and his 1983 effort, Coyote, presented here is no exception. In addition to Sampson's acoustic guitar and vocals, personnel includes Don Heffington on drums, Neil Young alumni Ben Keith on dobro and pedal steel, bass player Roly Salley from Chris Isaac's band, Wayne Goodwin on violin, Frank Reckard on acoustic and electric guitars, pianist Jay Spell, Jack Bone on bass and harmony vocals, Beckie and Brenda Burns, Clydene Jackson and Joyce Wilson on harmony vocals.
