Kansas City, Mo., native Bruce Prince-Joseph career started at age 17 when he moved to New York City where he was appointed chancel organist of the famed St. Patrick's Cathedral. Prince-Joseph later would serve 25 years as professor and head of the music department of Hunter College. from 1955 to 1975 he served as keyboardist for the New York Philharmonic, and worked with the greats of classical music, including the late conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein. in 1965 he earned a Grammy Award nomination for his recording of J. S. Bach's Six Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord. Since his return to his hometown in 1986, Prince-Joseph has been instrumental in restoring or directing the restoration of several historic pipe organs. The classic album presented here, recorded in 1956, features a Prince-Joseph organ recital at New York's famed Columbia University. All selections newly remastered.
