This collection of Irish pipe and tinwhistle music features three of Irelands greatest traditional folk performers. With an encyclopedic knowledge of traditional Irish music and virtuosic instrumental skill, Irish piper, singer and folklorist Seamus Ennis (1919-1982) helped to preserve the ancient folk songs and airs of the Emerald Isle. These classic recordings from 1959 capture the master at the height of his powers. Tommy Makem rose to fame with the world renowned Clancy Brothers and became revered around the globe as one of the finest interpreters of traditional Irish fare. His considerable skill on the Irish pennywhistle is demonstrated on these recordings from the late 1950's. The Dubliners formed in 1962 and made a name for themselves playing regularly in O'Donoghue's Pub in Dublin. They became very well known, not just in Ireland but also as pioneers for Irish folk around the globe. Featured here are some of their earliest recordings, picked for this compilation because they feature extensive use of the tin whistle. All selections newly remastered.
