Product Description:
From his first recordings with Jay McShann's band in 1945 to his associations with some of the biggest jazz and blues bands in the US, Jimmy Witherspoon was one of the first blues singers to blur the boundaries between blues and jazz, making blues palatable to a wider audience. Jimmy cemented his popularity worldwide with this classic album recorded live at the Monterey Jazz Festival in 1959 where he performed with an all star band that included Roy Eldridge, Woody Herman, Ben Webster, Coleman Hawkins, Earl Hines and Mel Lewis, among others. All selections have been newly remastered.
