Holocaust - Liberation of Majdanek

In 1961, Chronos Film was founded in Berlin, the place where on January 20, 1942, leading functionaries of the Third Reich decided upon the extermination of eleven million Jews, the Final Solution. It was a private initiative, undertaken without backing by any governments' funds, which led to the building up the world's largest and historically most important archive of film documents pertaining to the fate of the Nazi's victims.

The speed of the Soviet advance gave the Germans no time to destroy or conceal evidence of the atrocities committed at the concentration and extermination camp Majdanek. Majdanek was unique in the fact that it was the only camp still operational at the time of its liberation on July 23rd 1944. With footage shot by the Russian forces, which has never been seen before in the west, this stark documentary graphically portrays the terrible tragedy of the two million innocent victims exterminated and the truly frightful efficiency of this Nazi death factory.
